Dear Friend
Teachers - want students to have valuable practice at writing letters in the proper format? To have an increased awareness of societies and cultures from around the world? A chance to maintain ongoing communication with peers who they wouldn't normally get an opportunity to connect?
Students - want to learn about another country and culture, and make a new international friend?
The Dear Friend (Querido Amigo) program wants to connect students from North America and Equatorial Guinea through a pen pal connection. Schools, classroom, youth groups, etc. can send letters through Simply Equal Education, have them translated to English or Spanish, and have them sent to our partner schools. Dear Friend hopes to help instill all program participants with a greater understanding and appreciation of diversity. We believe that connecting peers on a global scale is a way for youth to understand and help inspire them to work to improve their local and global communities.

The importance of international education and exchange can be summarized beautifully by the Director of a partner school in Equatorial Guinea, talking about Dear Friend:
The boys and girls have read the letters that their American friends have sent, and have been happy to send the corresponding answers. We hope to continue this activity in correspondence to reinforce our growing friendship and brotherhood. No matter the long distance that separates us… we are given the understanding in their hearts that you have some brothers and sisters who are not close to you and that we are united spiritually. |
